Los Angeles- On June 12, USC Annenberg’s Executive Education hosted members of the Development Research Center of the State Council of the People’s Republic Of China (DRC) for a discussion about the future of global economic governance. The DRC conducts policy research and provides strategic guidance to the Chinese government on issues related to the economic and social development of China.

Global economic governance refers to the management and coordination of services to various countries by institutions such as the World Bank, the United Nations and the International Monetary Fund.  China and other emerging markets which have experienced unprecedented growth in recent years would like to see the governance framework evolve to reflect the changes in the world economy.

Annenberg Executive Education brought together a team of experts from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, USC Marshall School of Business, and the USC School of International Relations to create conversations on the difficult issues of trade, global governance and how strategic communication can help improve US-China relations.

“Given the ongoing trade war between the US and China and the ripple effect on global financial markets, we believe strategic communication is more important than ever to building trust and resolving the differences between the two countries,” said Shellee Smith, Executive Director of Annenberg Executive Education.

Among those attending the talks were professors  Ernest Wilson,  Patricia Riley, and Jonathan David Aronson from Annenberg; Professor Baizhu Chen from the Marshall School of Business;  Professor Benjamin Graham from the USC School of International Relations;  and Clay Dube, the Director of USC’s U.S.-China Institute.

A highlight of the DRC visit was a tour of Annenberg’s state-of-the-art Media Center led by Dean Willow Bay who showed them how the school was preparing the next generation of journalists, public relations professionals and communicators for future jobs.
