Producing Development Change Agents at the World Bank-Annenberg Summer Institute 2018
On June 15, 2018, Annenberg Executive Education and the World Bank certified 14 development leaders from around the world for excellence in reform communication including leadership, strategy and stakeholder alignment.
During the 10-day program, participants learned from leading Annenberg faculty at University of Southern California, the University of Pennsylvania and experts from the World Bank about how communication and a comprehensive communication strategy are vital to policy reforms, how to build collaboration among stakeholders networks and how to use a variety of communications tools to share their messages.
One participant, Bolaji Adepegba from Quoruz & Associates, a corporate communications company in West Africa, raved that the Annenberg-World Bank Summer Institute was an “immensely worthwhile experience! Getting [us] equipped for a world that must change.”
Mr. Adepegba, along with the other participants, are working to advance their nations towards a more prosperous and equal society. They come from 12 countries and a wide variety of careers, including engineers, ministry officials, economists and communication professionals working for international organizations such as the World Bank and the Ford Foundation. These differences provided the group with a unique perspective to their learning, the group work and how to adapt academic theory into practice.
“The 2018 cohort took every assignment with a smile and their passion and determination to make positive changes in the workforce made the World Bank-Annenberg Summer Institute an enjoyable experience for all the participants and faculty. I’m looking forward to hearing how they are applying what they learned in the Summer Institute to their jobs and making a better future for their countries,” said Shellee Smith, Executive Director of Annenberg Executive Education.
